Planning glass for the light in Altrincham
Sun angles matter for big glazed doors. Around Altrincham, midday sun reaches about 60° in summer and drops to about 13° in winter. That low winter sun is free heat through south-facing glass; high summer sun is easier to shade with a roof overhang, and solar-control glass helps where there is none.
How it works in Altrincham
Start with a guide price online or by phone. A surveyor then measures your opening in Altrincham, checks levels and the lintel, and you receive a fixed written quote. After you approve it, the door is made to measure and fitted, with the compliance certificate sent to you.
Approvals in England
In England, a replacement sliding door is a controlled fitting under the Building Regulations. In an existing home, a door with more than 60% glazing must reach a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better (or a Doorset Energy Rating of band C) under Approved Document L, and glass in doors must be safety glazing under Approved Document K. We arrange compliance through a competent person scheme installer or by notifying Building Control, and you receive the certificate.
