How it works

From guide price to fitted door: what happens at each stage, and how long it usually takes.

1. Get a guide price

Use the guide price tool or send us your opening size and postcode. You get a guide price for an entry, mid-range and premium system, so you can see where your budget sits before anyone visits.

2. Free survey

For new and replacement doors, a surveyor visits to measure the structural opening in several places, check that the floor is level and the lintel is sound, and look at how the threshold will meet your floor and patio. This is when we talk through glass for the direction the door faces, frame colour, handles and security.

3. Fixed written quote

You receive a written quote for the exact door specified at survey, including fitting, removal of any old door and making good. Payment stages are set out in the quote. Because sliding doors are made to measure, nothing is ordered until you confirm the specification in writing.

4. Manufacture

Typical lead times after you sign off: uPVC 2–4 weeks, aluminium 4–6 weeks, slimline and lift and slide 6–8 weeks, timber and alu-clad 8–10 weeks, internal glass doors 3–5 weeks. We confirm your fitting date once the door is in production.

5. Fitting day

Fitters protect floors and furniture, remove any old door, set the new frame level and square, seal it to the wall and adjust the panels so they glide and lock properly. A straight swap of a two-panel door usually takes a day; larger doors take one to two days. If the opening is being formed or widened, the building work comes first — typically three to five days — before the door goes in.

6. Certificate and aftercare

In England and Wales, compliance is arranged through a competent person scheme installer or by notifying Building Control, and the certificate is sent to you. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, any building warrant or building control approval your job needs is confirmed in the quote. Manufacturer guarantees on frames, hardware and sealed units are passed to you, and our workmanship guarantee is set out in writing in your quote. If something needs adjusting later, get in touch.

Questions

Is the survey free?

Yes, the survey is free for new sliding doors and replacements, with no obligation to go ahead. A surveyor measures the opening, checks the structure and talks you through the options, and you then receive a written quote. Repairs work differently: we quote from photos or a diagnostic visit, and any call-out charge is agreed with you before we attend. Request a quote to arrange a survey.

What happens on survey day?

On survey day a surveyor measures your opening precisely and checks everything that affects the door. That includes the lintel or beam above, the floor level and threshold detail, the condition of the surrounding brickwork, drainage outside and access for delivering large panels. The surveyor confirms your choices of glass, colour, handles and threshold, and flags any structural or regulation issues. You then receive a written quote for the surveyed specification.

How long do sliding doors take to arrive?

Typical lead times after you sign off the surveyed specification are 2–4 weeks for uPVC, 4–6 weeks for aluminium, 6–8 weeks for slimline and lift and slide doors, 8–10 weeks for timber and alu-clad, and 3–5 weeks for internal glass doors. These are typical times, not promises, and special colours or glass can add to them. We give you an expected fitting date when you place your order.

What happens on fitting day?

On fitting day the installers protect the area, take out the old door, fit the new frame level and square, then glaze, adjust and seal it. Typical fitting time is one day for a straight swap of a two-panel door and 1–2 days for larger doors. New openings typically need 3–5 days of building work before the door goes in. Before leaving, the installer shows you how the locks, handles and any blinds work.
