What makes a sliding door project go smoothly?
Most problems with sliding doors start before the door is made: an opening that is out of level, a threshold that sits too high, or glass that is wrong for the elevation. Our process is built to catch those early.
Measured by a surveyor
Sizes are taken from the structural opening, not guessed from the old frame, and checked for level and square before anything is ordered.
Glass chosen for the elevation
South and west-facing doors can overheat; we talk through solar-control and triple glazing so the room works in July and in January.
Thresholds planned properly
Low and flush thresholds need the floor and patio levels set correctly. We agree the detail with you or your builder at survey.
Paperwork handled
In England and Wales replacement doors are controlled fittings, so compliance goes through a competent person scheme installer or Building Control. In Scotland and Northern Ireland we confirm any approval needed before you order.

Learn moreWhy choose a sliding door?
A sliding door is a large glazed door whose panels glide past each other on a track, so it never swings into the room or onto the patio. Compared with bifolds, sliders use fewer, larger panes of glass and slimmer meeting frames, which keeps the view clear when the door is closed — and in the UK, the door is closed most of the year.
The trade-off is opening width: a two-panel slider opens about half its width, while a bifold folds almost fully away. If you want the whole wall to open, a multi-track door or an external pocket door gets you most of the way there.

Sliding door questions, answered
What is the difference between sliding doors and bifold doors?
A sliding door has large glass panels that glide past each other on tracks, while a bifold door has narrower panels that fold up concertina-style at one or both ends. Sliders give bigger panes, slimmer sightlines and no panels sticking out into the room or garden when open. Bifolds can clear almost the whole opening but show more frame when closed. Our sliding vs bifold guide compares them in detail.
Which sliding door material suits my budget?
uPVC suits the tightest budget, aluminium suits most mid-range projects, and timber or alu-clad suits buyers who want natural wood inside. As guide prices, fitted, including VAT at standard 2.1 m height, uPVC starts from £1,695, aluminium from £3,295 and timber or alu-clad from £5,095. Aluminium allows slimmer frames and larger panels than uPVC. The right choice also depends on the size, colour and thermal performance you need.
How do your guide prices work?
A guide price is our typical fitted cost for a given door type and width, including VAT, at standard 2.1 m height. For example, a 2,400 mm aluminium sliding door has a guide price range of £4,295–£5,295, from entry to premium specification, and uPVC sliding doors start from £1,695. Extra height, triple glazing, special colours and building work add to it. Your final price is fixed in a written quote after survey. See all guide prices.
What is included in the guide price?
The guide price includes the survey, a made-to-measure door with double glazed safety glass, delivery, removal of your existing door, fitting, sealing and trims. Building Regulations compliance is arranged through a competent person scheme installer or by notifying Building Control. Forming or widening an opening is extra: for example, the guide price for forming a 3 m opening is £3,795 including VAT, covering steel, padstones and making good. Your written quote lists exactly what is and is not included.
Is the survey free?
Yes, the survey is free for new sliding doors and replacements, with no obligation to go ahead. A surveyor measures the opening, checks the structure and talks you through the options, and you then receive a written quote. Repairs work differently: we quote from photos or a diagnostic visit, and any call-out charge is agreed with you before we attend. Request a quote to arrange a survey.
What happens on survey day?
On survey day a surveyor measures your opening precisely and checks everything that affects the door. That includes the lintel or beam above, the floor level and threshold detail, the condition of the surrounding brickwork, drainage outside and access for delivering large panels. The surveyor confirms your choices of glass, colour, handles and threshold, and flags any structural or regulation issues. You then receive a written quote for the surveyed specification.
