The table below gives guide prices by system and width. The rest of the guide explains what drives the price, what a fitted guide price includes, what supply only costs, and how your final price is fixed in writing after survey.

What do sliding doors cost by type and width?

Each figure is a guide price range from entry to premium specification, fitted, inc VAT, at standard 2.1 m height, for a door going into an existing opening of the right size. Corner door widths are both elevations added together, and internal pocket doors are priced per door.

What drives the price of a sliding door?

  • Size. Price rises with overall width, and doors taller than the standard 2.1 m cost more.
  • System. uPVC costs least, then standard aluminium, then slimline, timber and lift and slide.
  • Glass. Triple glazing, solar-control glass, laminated security glass and integral blinds each add to the figure.
  • Colour. One standard colour is included; dual colour, a special RAL shade or a foiled uPVC finish costs extra.
  • Threshold and locks. A low threshold with a drainage detail, or an enhanced security locking pack, is priced as an option.
  • Access. Very large panels that need lifting equipment, or a difficult route to the back of the house, can add to the fitting cost.
  • Opening work. Forming or widening the opening is the biggest single extra, at a guide price of £3,795 inc VAT for a 3 m opening, including structural calculations.

Each option you choose is listed as a separate line in your written quote, so you can see what it adds and leave it out if it is not worth it to you.

How much does it cost to form or widen the opening?

If the door is going into a new or wider opening, the building work is priced separately from the door. As a guide price inc VAT, forming or widening a 3 m opening is £3,795, covering the steel beam or lintel, padstones, making good inside and out, and the engineer's structural calculations. Building Control fees are set by your council and are extra.

That work also needs a Building Regulations application in England, or a building warrant in Scotland, and typically adds 3–5 days of building work before the door goes in. Our guide to widening an opening for sliding doors explains each step.

What is included in a fitted guide price?

A fitted guide price covers a complete door installed in an existing opening:

  • A free survey for new and replacement doors, with precise measurements
  • A made-to-measure door with double glazed safety glass in one standard colour
  • Delivery to your home
  • Taking out and removing your existing door
  • Fitting, levelling, sealing and trims, with making good around the frame
  • Building Regulations compliance, arranged through a competent person scheme installer or by notifying Building Control
  • Manufacturer guarantees on frames, hardware and sealed units passed to you, with our workmanship guarantee set out in writing in your quote

It does not include forming or widening the opening, decorating, flooring, or options such as triple glazing or a special colour unless your quote says so.

How much does supply only cost?

Supply only costs roughly two thirds of the fitted guide price, plus a standard mainland delivery charge with a guide price of £95, and remote deliveries by arrangement. You get the same made-to-measure door, delivered for your own builder or installer to fit.

The saving comes with responsibility: your installer must measure accurately, fit the door and arrange Building Regulations compliance. Because the door is made to your measurements, a measuring error cannot be put right by sending it back. See supply only sliding doors for how ordering works.

How is the final price fixed?

Your final price is fixed in a written quote after survey. A surveyor measures the opening, checks the lintel or beam above, the floor level and threshold, drainage and access for large panels, and confirms your choices of glass, colour and hardware.

The quote lists the door, every option and any building work as separate lines, and nothing is ordered until you confirm the surveyed specification in writing. Made-to-measure doors are excluded from the usual 14-day cancellation right under regulation 28(1)(b) of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, which is why that written sign-off matters. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected.

How can I keep the cost down?

  • Keep to the standard 2.1 m height where the opening allows
  • Use the existing opening if it already gives you the view you want
  • Choose a standard colour, the same inside and out
  • Consider uPVC for a straightforward replacement up to 3.6 m wide
  • Add options such as integral blinds or triple glazing only where they earn their place

Common questions

How much is a 2.4 m sliding door?

As a guide price, a 2.4 m sliding door is £2,195–£2,695 in uPVC, £4,295–£5,295 in aluminium and £5,995–£7,295 in slimline aluminium, fitted, inc VAT, at standard 2.1 m height into an existing opening. Glass, colour and threshold options move the figure within or above those ranges, and the final price is fixed in a written quote after survey.

Is the survey free?

Yes, the survey is free for new sliding doors and replacements, with no obligation to go ahead. A surveyor measures the opening and checks the structure, then you receive a written quote. Repairs are different: we quote from photos or a diagnostic visit, and any call-out charge is agreed with you before we attend.

Do guide prices include VAT and fitting?

Yes. Every guide price on this site includes VAT and fitting into an existing opening at standard 2.1 m height, unless a page says otherwise. Supply only costs roughly two thirds of the fitted figure, plus delivery. Forming or widening an opening, and options such as triple glazing or a special colour, are priced separately in your quote.

Why do quotes for sliding doors vary so much?

Quotes vary because they often describe different doors. The system, glass build, number of panels, threshold, colour, locking and whether building work is included all change the price. Some quotes also leave out removal of the old door, making good or Building Regulations compliance. Compare quotes line by line on the same size and specification, not on the total alone.
