Internal glass sliding doors across Rutland
These are the points a surveyor will go through with you when you choose internal glass sliding doors for a home in Rutland:
Converting a garage in Rutland into a playroom or office? A glazed sliding door to the hallway keeps a line of sight into the room without leaving it open to the rest of the house.
For a Rutland terrace where the hallway gets almost no daylight, glazed internal doors are one way to borrow light from the rooms either side.
- Because the panel slides across the wall rather than into it, there is no need to open up the wall, making installation quicker and cleaner than a pocket door.
- Glazing bars can be arranged in grids, single horizontal rails or plain full-height panes, so the door can be matched to a period house or a modern extension.
- Reeded, fluted or frosted glass can obscure a home office or utility area while still letting light through, giving privacy without a solid wall.

Approvals in England
Fitting an internal sliding or pocket door is not usually notifiable building work in England. Approved Document K treats glass in doors as a critical location, so we only supply safety glass for internal doors. If a wall has to be altered to form a pocket, check first whether it is load-bearing.
Questions about internal glass sliding doors in Rutland
Do I need building approval for internal glass sliding doors in Rutland?
In England a replacement door is a controlled fitting, so compliance is arranged through a competent person scheme installer or Building Control; new openings need a Building Regulations application. We confirm the right route for your property at survey, so the paperwork is in place before fitting.
What are steel-look internal sliding doors?
Steel-look internal sliding doors are glass doors with slim, dark aluminium frames and glazing bars designed to resemble traditional steel windows. Aluminium is used because it is lighter, does not rust and takes a durable powder-coat finish, while still giving the narrow sightlines that make the industrial style recognisable. They slide on a top track rather than swinging open.
Can internal glass sliding doors go into a new extension?
Yes, and fitting them as part of an extension is often simpler, because the builder can put solid timber or a lintel above the opening for the track while the walls are open. Tell us the finished floor and ceiling heights early so the panels can be sized accurately once the plastering is done.
How much does an internal glass sliding door cost?
Fitted internal glass sliding doors have a guide price of £1,695 for a single 900 mm panel, inc VAT at standard 2.1 m height, rising to £2,895–£3,495 for a 2,400 mm two-panel door. The glass type, number of glazing bars and track arrangement move the price within those ranges, and your written quote after survey fixes it.
