Secure sliding doors (PAS 24) across the Isle of Wight
Before you settle on a door type, it helps to know what secure sliding doors do well and what to check before you order.
For a new-build or conversion on the Isle of Wight with a security condition attached, send us the specification before we quote so the right system is chosen from the start.
Whichever door you choose for your Isle of Wight home, pair it with good habits: lock the door, remove the key and keep side gates bolted.
- Internally glazed or secured beads mean the glass cannot be removed from the outside, closing off a route that some older doors left open.
- Laminated glass has a tough interlayer that holds the pane together when struck, so even a cracked panel resists an attempt to break through.
- An anti-snap key cylinder is designed to resist the snapping attack used on many older euro cylinders, protecting the lock itself.

Daylight and glass on the Isle of Wight
Because the Isle of Wight sees long summer days (about 16 h 29 min) and short winter ones (about 7 h 58 min), the elevation your door faces makes a real difference. With the midday sun at about 16° in winter, a south-facing door brings light well into the room; a west-facing door catches hot late-afternoon sun in summer.
Where we fit on the Isle of Wight
We cover Newport (Isle of Wight), Ryde, Cowes, Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor and the rest of the Isle of Wight. All of the Isle of Wight is covered by arrangement: the survey is still free, and survey dates, delivery and any travel cost for delivery and fitting are confirmed in your quote.
Approvals in England
English Building Regulations treat a new or replacement external door in an existing home as a controlled fitting: it needs a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better (or Doorset Energy Rating band C) if more than 60% of it is glazed (Approved Document L), and safety glass in a critical location (Approved Document K). Compliance is arranged through a competent person scheme installer or a Building Control notification, so you get a certificate for your records.
Questions about secure sliding doors on the Isle of Wight
Do you fit secure sliding doors on the Isle of Wight?
Yes, by arrangement. Isle of Wight is in an area we cover by arrangement: the survey is still free, and survey dates, delivery and any travel cost for delivery and fitting are confirmed in your quote before you order.
What makes old sliding patio doors insecure?
Older sliding patio doors are often vulnerable because the sliding panel can be lifted off its track, the single-point lock can be forced, the glass beads are on the outside or the cylinder can be snapped. Modern secure sliding doors address each of those weaknesses with anti-lift devices, multipoint locks, internal glazing and anti-snap cylinders.
Are all your sliding doors PAS 24?
Not every door we supply is PAS 24 tested, and we would never claim otherwise. Our aluminium sliding doors are available in systems tested to PAS 24, and your written quote states the exact system and specification. If PAS 24 matters to you, tell us at enquiry and we will specify a tested system and configuration to suit your opening.
Does Approved Document Q apply to my replacement door?
No, Approved Document Q sets security requirements for doors and windows in new dwellings in England and does not apply when you replace a door in an existing home. Choosing a door tested to PAS 24 is still a sensible benchmark for a replacement, because it gives you a recognised standard rather than relying on how the hardware looks.
