Sliding door replacement across Lanarkshire
Most homeowners choosing replacement sliding doors want the same things: more light, a clear view and a door that is easy to live with.
Considering a wider door for your Lanarkshire home while you are replacing it? Weigh up the extra cost of structural work against the gain in glass before deciding.
If the existing opening in your Lanarkshire home is sound and a sensible size, simply replacing the door gives the biggest improvement for the least disruption.
- Most two-panel replacements are completed in a single day, so the house is secure again by the evening without the room being out of use for long.
- New rollers and a precision track make a heavy door glide with a light push, where an old door may need both hands and a firm shove to open.
- Removal and disposal of your old patio door is included in our guide prices, so there is no separate skip or tip run to organise.

Daylight and glass in Lanarkshire
Because Lanarkshire sees long summer days (about 17 h 34 min) and short winter ones (about 7 h 00 min), the elevation your door faces makes a real difference. With the midday sun at about 11° in winter, a south-facing door brings light well into the room; a west-facing door catches hot late-afternoon sun in summer.

Approvals in Scotland
Scottish building standards still apply to a replacement door even where no warrant is needed, so the door must meet the energy and safety glazing requirements. If the opening is being formed or widened, a building warrant is required before work begins.
Questions about replacement sliding doors in Lanarkshire
Can you match other doors and windows in my Lanarkshire home?
Usually, yes. Most aluminium and uPVC systems come in standard RAL colours and finishes, and we can quote dual colour where the inside and outside need to differ. Bring photos of existing frames to the survey.
Will the new door have a lower threshold?
A lower threshold may be possible on a replacement, depending on the floor level inside, the height of the patio or ground outside and how the opening was built. Low thresholds are typically 15–25 mm. A flush threshold needs a drainage channel outside so rain cannot run in. We check levels at survey and tell you what is realistic.
What if there is no proper lintel above my old door?
Occasionally an old door frame turns out to be carrying some load because the support above the opening is inadequate or missing. We check the head of the opening at survey and again when the old frame comes out. If extra support is needed, we explain why, what it involves and what it costs before any further work goes ahead.
What happens to my old patio door?
We remove your old patio door and take it away for disposal as part of the job, and that is included in our guide prices, so there is nothing for you to arrange. If you would rather keep the old door, for example for a shed or greenhouse project, tell us before the fitting day and we will leave it safely on site.
